Transcript of Frankel's Free Clinic February 21, 2000 (2/21/2000 8:59 AM): good morning Terri.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:00 AM): How are things going at your House, Robert? getting local advertisers yet? (2/21/2000 9:01 AM): A few Terri. Most are having difficult with the web.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:01 AM): What sort of difficulty? (2/21/2000 9:01 AM): Most of them are telling me that they have more business than they can handle and don't need to advertise

RobM (2/21/2000 9:02 AM): May I ask what does do?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:02 AM): hmmm I can see how that would happen .. especially with small local contractors (2/21/2000 9:02 AM): It's an online directory for home related services

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:03 AM): but what about small retailers that have products they would like to sell? (2/21/2000 9:03 AM): Homeowners can go to one location and find all the services they need to fixed their homes.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:04 AM): or even someplace like Home Depot that could have their weekly specials up on your site? Maybe they would want to "sponsor" they site and promo it for you in their offline ads? (2/21/2000 9:04 AM): Terri, I've keeping retailers out of this for the time being. It was designed for services only.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:04 AM): ahhh okay :) (2/21/2000 9:05 AM): Home depot or Lowes would be great. I'm also looking at newspapers. An ad in the paper for ads in my website.

RobM (2/21/2000 9:06 AM): Terri what's your business?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:06 AM): I'm a recruiter for sales and marketing professionals, Rob

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:08 AM): Rob, how did you hear about this chat? Do you have any problems we could try to help you with today? (2/21/2000 9:08 AM): Terri, what can we do to help you?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:09 AM): Robert, send your business friends to me who want sales and marketing people!<g>

RobM (2/21/2000 9:10 AM): I met Rob Frankel at a Jay Abraham seminar in Jan

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:10 AM): oh wow! I envy you Rob! I have heard such great things about that seminar!

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:11 AM): Great, Robert!! Why don't you join me in my customer service room after the chat.. and click on the HumanClick icon (2/21/2000 9:11 AM): ok

RobM (2/21/2000 9:12 AM): I am available right now ! for the right joking

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:12 AM): Terri how's that Human Click working for you?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:12 AM): or you can email me and tell me more about what you're looking for -

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:12 AM): Barbara, it is OUTSTANDING! much better than anything I have tried b4

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:13 AM): I have tried it with one of their people and it seemed to work well. But it didn't work well sometimes when trying it on some of my buddies' sites

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:13 AM): Rob, visit my site if you want to and see the opportunities I have listed there

RobM (2/21/2000 9:13 AM): I will

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:14 AM): Barbara, how did it not work well? I think the first time I tried it they were still going thru growing pains.. but I haven't had any trouble with it since then

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:15 AM): Terri, can you suggest good reading material for anyone who'd like to start an online recruiting service?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:15 AM): Rob, are you doing some sort of business online?

RobM (2/21/2000 9:15 AM): May I ask, are people making money with their sites?

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:16 AM): RobM I am making some money on affiliate programs in spite of not promoting my site big time yet

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:16 AM): Of course, Barbara!<g> Try a book from Lou Adler called Hiring from the gut (check him out online at I could be wrong on the title of the book<g>

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:16 AM): Terri sometimes I could not get connected when it said they were 'OnLine'

RobM (2/21/2000 9:17 AM): Not yet Terri, I don't have a website yet which is high on my to do list

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:17 AM): Thanks tons Terri:-) The info is for my brother

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:17 AM): I am getting clients and candidates from my web site Rob.. but anyone who tells you that you are going to get rich overnight without working at it, is lying to you! <grin>

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:18 AM): What is your "passion" Rob? You're welcome Barbara! Tell your brother good luck! :)

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:18 AM): Too many people out there think that the web is some sort of magic place to get rich quick (2/21/2000 9:18 AM): Terri, do you place people outside out of Phoenix?

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:19 AM): Thanks for the well wishes Terri. I'll tell him:-)

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:19 AM): Robert, I place people all over the U.S. and right now am working on a European position (2/21/2000 9:20 AM): Great!!

RobM (2/21/2000 9:20 AM): Funny you should ask... I like talking, listening and teaching people (2/21/2000 9:21 AM): Terri, do you do something like this on your site...a live chat

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:21 AM): about what in particular, Rob?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:21 AM): I don't have a chat room like this set up yet, Robert - but it is on my "to-do" list - I plan to have moderated "guests" appear soon

RobM (2/21/2000 9:22 AM): about empowerment and breaking patterns of limitations and getting what they really want from life (2/21/2000 9:23 AM): Terri, you could brand recruit2hire as the "place" to go to get info on being hired. (2/21/2000 9:23 AM): Rob is this NLP

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:23 AM): That's a good thing to teach, Robert! You might want to check with local community colleges and offer seminars on it for a nominal fee

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:24 AM): oops! meant Rob<g>

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:24 AM): Robert, that is what my goal is - I offer a lot of free information there for both job seekers and employers

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:26 AM): Robert, did you say that you offer a free e-zine with tips for homeowners?

RobM (2/21/2000 9:26 AM): Robert, this 48 years of life and learning it thru experience (2/21/2000 9:26 AM): Terri, you could offer a monthly membership that helps job seekers and employers get better job and people (2/21/2000 9:26 AM): Yes Terri, I do offer a newsletter.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:27 AM): hmmm ... what kind of membership, Robert?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:27 AM): Robert, have you thought about printing out the newsletter and dropping a few copies off at local realtors? Making sure it has all your contact info of course<g>

RobM (2/21/2000 9:27 AM): A question for the group...How complicated is it build your own website not knowing HTML? (2/21/2000 9:28 AM): Something like IMC (Internet Marketing challenge) if following the marketing stuff. (2/21/2000 9:28 AM): Entered the room.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:28 AM): Rob, you HAVE to learn HTML .. but it isn't necessarily difficult to learn (2/21/2000 9:29 AM): Terri, that's a great idea although I can find realtor web sites all over the place. I could spam them

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:29 AM): Hi JoAnna! Robert, it is something to think about anyway! thanks :) (2/21/2000 9:29 AM): Hi JoAnna (2/21/2000 9:29 AM): A belated good morning to you all!

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:29 AM): *laffin* Robert!!! no SPAM!! I meant print copies to your local realtors!

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:30 AM): Sleeping in today, JoAnna?<g> (2/21/2000 9:30 AM): I know Terri.

RobM (2/21/2000 9:30 AM): What is the average REAL price to contract out building a site?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:31 AM): Rob, I have a Marketing for Newbies site that has links to some e-books to learn basic HTML and lots more .. (2/21/2000 9:31 AM): You should subscribe Terri. to the Lovemyhouse newsletter.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:31 AM): I will do that, Robert :)

RobM (2/21/2000 9:32 AM): Thanks Terri I'll check it out

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:32 AM): it's hard to say what the average REAL price is ... I have seen them from $250 up to thousands of dollars (2/21/2000 9:33 AM): Rob, it depends on what you want your site to be about. (2/21/2000 9:33 AM): I was up 'til five because I was "in the groove" last night, making another employee handbook (2/21/2000 9:33 AM): I figured I was entitled to a LITTLE sleep!

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:34 AM): Rob, the best advice that I have heard anywhere on site design is KISS.. forget the Flash and Neon .. Talk to your audience like you are right there with them

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:34 AM): kewl, JoAnna! congratulations! (2/21/2000 9:35 AM): If you are building a site based on your experiences and the past 48 years then I think you would want to build it yourself. You'll have more control and input and get it the way you want. If you have someone else build it, it will take longer, more money because other people can't convey what your thinking like you can.

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:35 AM): Was on phone. Good morning JoAnna

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:36 AM): Also, I highly recommend Wanda Loskot's Internet Success Boot Camp - she offers a free sample tele-class - there is a link to it on the marketing page I mentioned (2/21/2000 9:36 AM): Thanks! :-) Terri, we should talk, later in ICQ, about the ResumeRescue.Web.Com site. I need your advice. is that cool? (2/21/2000 9:36 AM): Look at FP 2000 or Dreamweaver or something software. Talk to the sales people. (2/21/2000 9:36 AM): Hello, Barbara.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:36 AM): yep! that's cool, JoAnna! I'll get my Q up and running (2/21/2000 9:37 AM): okay, back into lurk mode for me...

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:37 AM): HTML is the easiest way to go for websites.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:37 AM): my $.02 on Front Page or Dreamweaver... learn how to hand code html first ..then you will know how to strip the unnecessary coding out when you use either of those<g>

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:38 AM): Great advice Terri!

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:38 AM): okay JoAnna

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:39 AM): Entered the room.

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:39 AM): I'd say go with Dreamweaver and stay clear away from FP. HTML is actually faster to learn than these fancy editors (2/21/2000 9:39 AM): I think Rob left ladies.

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:39 AM): Hiya Dorothy

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:39 AM): Hi all! I'll jump out of lurk mode for once.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:39 AM): hi Dorothy! You think so, Robert? How can you tell?

RobM (2/21/2000 9:40 AM): No I'm right here..some walked in and I was a little distracted, sorry

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:40 AM): Great, Dorothy! We're glad to have you! (2/21/2000 9:40 AM): Well, I'm here with Dorothy, Terri, Barbara, and JoAnna. My lucky day<g>

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:41 AM): hehehe Robert! Hey, Happy President's Day to all of you!

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:41 AM): Just needed to throw out the Adobe web options as well... they have PageMill and GoLive plus all the graphics packages and etc that they are better known for.

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:41 AM): LOL Robert:-) (2/21/2000 9:42 AM): We've had a holiday on a Monday for about the last 3 weeks haven't we?

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:43 AM): Thanks Terri. Same to you and everyone else

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:43 AM): seems like it, Robert! Dorothy, I like Adobe a lot - have seen several e-books written with it

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:43 AM): A lot of folks hang out on the Adobe forums to get a feel for various packages. (2/21/2000 9:44 AM): To get back to marketing, Have any of you used Rob's FrankelBiz to post messages or sell things or offer some service?

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:44 AM): Terri, you mean the pdf files made with Acrobat?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:44 AM): thanks Dorothy! (2/21/2000 9:44 AM): Does anyone know how big his list is?

RobM (2/21/2000 9:44 AM): I've got to run nice talking to all for further contact I can be reached at

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:44 AM): Robert, I haven't posted to it, but I have heard a lot of members saying they got a TON of response when they did

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:45 AM): yes, Dorothy. Okay Rob! nice seeing you! come back next Monday to meet the Dictator!<g>

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:45 AM): bye RobM (2/21/2000 9:45 AM): Take care RobM. good luck with your site.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:45 AM): I don't know Robert

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:46 AM): I've often wished that Rob had a way of adding some of the information that others have received as a result of their posts! Got to be lots of valuable stuff!! (2/21/2000 9:46 AM): Terri, you should post available jobs there.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:47 AM): whew!! bite your tongue, Robert!! <g>; Rob doesn't want the list used for that!

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:47 AM): That should probably be ... adding info to his site...

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:48 AM): for sure, Dorothy! Maybe Rob will read this transcript and give that idea some thought<g> (2/21/2000 9:48 AM): You know how we get those domainia listing every week. Web sites for sales. Your doing nothing more that offering positions that ;you have available.

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:48 AM): What list are you all talking about?

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:48 AM): I've never suggested it since it would be a whole lot of work!!

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:49 AM): Barbara, it's the FrankelBiz list .. I am sure he has a sign-up box on his site for it (2/21/2000 9:50 AM): You can post business offerings to Rob and he sends out to his list.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:50 AM): Robert, not all recruiters are ... umm polite<g> many of them would totally bombard the list with job postings if Rob allowed it to get started (2/21/2000 9:50 AM): Just sign up for his newsletter.

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:50 AM): thanks Terri. I will look for more information about this list then.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:51 AM): but! I am going to announce a contest soon... for a FrankelBee to WIN a free search for a candidate .. (2/21/2000 9:51 AM): How do ;you get the word out about available jobs Terri.

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:51 AM): Terri... you mean like they do with DOMAINIA's??

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:52 AM): my web site has a "job-listing" page.. and they can sign up to be notified every time the page is updated

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:52 AM): *laffin* yeah, something like that, Robert

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 9:52 AM): Thanks Robert I'll check that out also

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:53 AM): oops! I meant Dorothy.. but Rob won't allow job postings on the list .. I tried when I first signed up a year ago

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:53 AM): I've seen some of the play around that, Terry...

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:54 AM): what do you mean, Dorothy?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:55 AM): Also, I don't think it is job postings per se.. but third party recruiting in particular

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:56 AM): I usually have little to contribute, but I like to follow along. I can't point out specifics I don't think, but there has been a bit of back and forth about posting jobs.

Dorothy ( (2/21/2000 9:57 AM): His rule book says that you can recruit to hire for yourself but not for others, so yes, 3rd party gets shot down.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:57 AM): True! I hope my contest will pass the editing test<g> (2/21/2000 9:57 AM): I hadn't read all the rules. (2/21/2000 9:58 AM): Terri, do you have all the work you can handle?

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:59 AM): never, Robert!<g> I also work with hand-picked associates that help me

Teri McCready ( (2/21/2000 9:59 AM): Entered the room.

Terri ( (2/21/2000 9:59 AM): hi Teri! did you oversleep too?<g> (2/21/2000 9:59 AM): How many associates do you have? (2/21/2000 9:59 AM): Good Morning Teri

Terri ( (2/21/2000 10:00 AM): 3 right now, Robert - in different states (2/21/2000 10:00 AM): sorry: phone call. did I miss anything?

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 10:00 AM): Hi Teri (2/21/2000 10:00 AM): (I mean, did anyone ask anything while I wasn't here?)

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 10:02 AM): ya JoAnna:-) (2/21/2000 10:03 AM): I'm a little slow. Anyway, I'm pretty useless unless I get some coffee. have a great morning, & a great week, everyone!

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 10:04 AM): There is no need to bother with Network Solutions anymore with so many other places to register now. for one and check out

Terri ( (2/21/2000 10:04 AM): Absolutely, Robert! come on over!

Barbara Candelario ( (2/21/2000 10:04 AM): bye all thanks. You also have a wonderful week! (2/21/2000 10:05 AM): is the way to go.

Teri McCready ( (2/21/2000 10:05 AM): Thanks. Will do. I usually go thru Hypermart so I can set up hosting at the same time. I heard that you can get leapfrogged because of all the registrars getting into the act. (2/21/2000 10:06 AM): okay, really...BYE!
