RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:00 AM): Greetings....

Muhammad(adgconsulting.com) (5/10/99 9:00 AM): Good Morning Everyone

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 9:00 AM): Good morning Rob.

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:01 AM): Rob, I just want you to do I've been having lots of problems with the Mind Store.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:01 AM): Birds are singing, coffee is brewing, all is right with the world...

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:02 AM): Big thanks to Clayton for recommending that Mac adapter for my PowerBook. Saved my butt in San Francisco last week...

Muhammad(adgconsulting.com) (5/10/99 9:02 AM): It is a beautiful day

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 9:02 AM): Good

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:02 AM): What problems, Benjamin? (That's why we haven't charged/launched yet)

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:03 AM): I've been trying for a couple of weeks to get it setup to process orders through my existing merchant account

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:04 AM): I filled out an application.. then the mind store faxed that off to someone... but that wasn't the right person

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:04 AM): Where's the disconnect?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:04 AM): Now I'm having to talk to someone else, having to wait on more information to come via snail mail

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:04 AM): And am generally very frustrated

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:04 AM): The disconnect is that Mind Store is acting as liaison but doesn't really seem to know who they should be dealing with

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:04 AM): That sucks. Have you talked to Mike Tingle about this?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:05 AM): I've been talking to Kelly..

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:05 AM): I was going to advertise my unsold ad inventory which remains unsold :(

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:06 AM): How can I get in touch with Mike Directly?

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:06 AM): Okay, I appreciate your patience and help on this. I want to make the site more efficient and friendly, too. So anything I hear from you will help. This is our "dry run" period.

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:07 AM): Entered the room.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:07 AM): Michael Tingle (mtingle@mindthestore.com)

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:08 AM): Thanks

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:08 AM): Angie, is this your first time here?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:09 AM): Sorry to rant so early in the morning. I'm sure other people have real questions

Angie Dixon (thecommerceplace.com) (5/10/99 9:09 AM): No, Rob, I sat in a couple of weeks ago to see how everything works. Missed it last week; I had to go out of town for family emergency. Would have rather been here, though!

Hollend (5/10/99 9:09 AM): Entered the room.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:09 AM): NO problem. That's what I'm here for. After all, we're trying to fix problems -- even mine!

Muhammad(adgconsulting.com) (5/10/99 9:10 AM): It is a beautiful day

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:10 AM): I want to ask about setting up a scheduled chat, is 9AM the BEST time is my question.

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:10 AM): I'll send you private feedback on the whole thing. I only just found out a couple hours ago all the work I have been doing is wasted.

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:10 AM): So I am still a bit upset.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:11 AM): Entered the room.

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:11 AM): Entered the room.

Hollend (5/10/99 9:11 AM): I'm coming a little late and have only read a few archives...so I'll just jump in with my stuff and if its out of line just say so

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:13 AM): Entered the room.

Rozey (5/10/99 9:13 AM): Entered the room.

Hollend (5/10/99 9:13 AM): I'm a newbie looking to start a internet business. I have no money, no URL, and no business experience. I'm looking for good sources of internet revenue generation (how much do people bring in by what means) for a business plan.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:13 AM): Guy, 9 Am works because it allows the most number of people in North America the best available time

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:14 AM): AHA! Mike Tingle is here! Ask away, Benjamin!

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:14 AM): Thanks, I will send you an invitation when it's started, won't be on Monday's though, so I won't miss here.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:14 AM): Benjamin, how are you?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:15 AM): Rob it may be best to discuss outside of here. I don't want to waste everyone's time

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:15 AM): NO, Benjamin, it might illuminate others' issues And Mike is here anyway...

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:15 AM): MTS = Mind the Store?

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:16 AM): I concur Ben

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:16 AM): Global Payment Systems changed the way they deal with US and Canadian merchants. You filled out the Canadian one. You forms are now being processed.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:16 AM): MTS Mind the Store: Yes

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:16 AM): What is the URL for MTS?

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:17 AM): www.mindthestore.com

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:17 AM): thank you, I write down a list of everyone's URL's and visit them later after chat

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:17 AM): so Rob how is your affiliate concept working out?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:18 AM): Mike we'll talk about it offline. Can I call you?

Hollend (5/10/99 9:18 AM): How long should I wait before deciding I'm not asking a good question?

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:19 AM): Benjamin, I have Kelly watching your file closely. Yes you can call me. 18002549992

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:19 AM): Louise, you are psychic! I was getting set to ask the same...

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:20 AM): well Hollend I suggest that you find every article you can on the net re: biz startups... find what you want to sell or market, then test your ideas out .. here maybe?

Hollend (5/10/99 9:21 AM): Entered the room.

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:21 AM): Or hire a consultant to build a working model of your business plan idea

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:21 AM): is everyone getting kicked, or what?

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:21 AM): Louise, the FrankelBiz.com concept is bumping along, but it's still not where I want it to be. I wanted Mike here today so that he could talk to the merchants in real time.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:22 AM): Yes, I've been kicked this morning, too. In any event, I'm asking everyone to give me their comments so that mike and I can fix the system before we really crank this up.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:23 AM): And I don't want to charge anyone anything until it becomes effortless and smooth....

Hollend (5/10/99 9:23 AM): I have to get the publishers reprint permission and they've informally said it will run $+100K. I am reluctant to "test" it due to time and $ constraints. Big bucks is the only way I see it happening and I doubt I can get any money without... well you know, I feel like a lot of catch 22s are in my way.

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:23 AM): My comment is that when I tried to connect the first two times it said unable to connect, so I went to the robfrankel.com domain and then could connect, sort of scary at first try

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:24 AM): That is good news. I was afraid I was going to be charged during this time period where I was just trying to get my store setup!

Angie Dixon (thecommerceplace.com) (5/10/99 9:24 AM): I'm going to butt in now I have been doing web design for several years, & doing okay at it--not great, but okay. My real strength, though, is in writing, and I'm making a decent amount of money from a few recurring press release clients. What I'd like to do is roll my writing & Internet consulting together & really market those services. But I'm not sure where to even start.

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:24 AM): seems to me that most of the offers are for ad space or consulting services, it is hard to see where someone such as myself can "fit in" so to speak

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:25 AM): Angie, let's hold that for minute. Louise, the idea is that Agents should be able to drag your banner to their sites and that when their visitors click, it takes them to your site with a tracking number that tells you who sent them.

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:26 AM): Angie, my first thought is try reciprocal links to other internet services like hosting (that doesn't design), or graphics folks perhaps,

Guy Cook - dialone.com (5/10/99 9:26 AM): oops! I'll hold the thought too, sorry.

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:27 AM): Actually Louise I could put your banner on my unsold women's soccer inventory. it'd probably be better than having nothing there or so public service ad

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:27 AM): This works for either services or products. So you should be creating a banner or text link that Agents can download. You should be announcing your FrankelBiz shop to the list so that other FrankelBees know where to find you and refer business to you.

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:27 AM): yes, but we are still talking about niche marketing here, I still don't see how I would fit it with your typical store/affiliate

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:27 AM): Mike, you can jump in here if you like....

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:28 AM): Ben. really?

Muhammad(adgconsulting.com) (5/10/99 9:28 AM): It is a beautiful day

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:29 AM): Benjamin has it right. It's a great way to place remnant ad space, for example, and really have it work for you. But now we do all the tracking for everyone and centralize the banners and links.

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:29 AM): Of course!

Hollend (5/10/99 9:29 AM): Sorry, gotta go...

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:29 AM): That way, if it work for you and Benjamin, you'll hopefully tell others about it and gradually we'll have a whole network -- mainly of FrankelBees.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:30 AM): Okay Angie, as to your question: You need to niche more narrowly. The more you niche, the better you do. Sounds to me like you have two different businesses....

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:31 AM): The way I really intend to use it is for advertising to Frankel Bees. That way they become affiliates and receive the discount through the affiliate program

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:31 AM): Louise, your products are great. They would get a lot of attention and tap into the impulse buy factor.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:31 AM): I always recommend working from strength. If you're better at writing, do that.

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:31 AM): Instead of having to offer inventory at two different pricing structures

Angie Dixon (thecommerceplace.com) (5/10/99 9:31 AM): What I'd really like to do is writing. What I'm best at is press releases & ghostwriting. That's where I'd like to focus.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:32 AM): If you really must do both (it drains your energy and focus, though), do it from two different sites/identities/brands. Don't confuse them, or you'll confuse your customers.

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:32 AM): Yes they are Mike LOL, I got my first 10K order last month just from my pages

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:32 AM): Is your site secure? I did not see the little key or lock.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:33 AM): Louise, we can help you out with that if you want. FrankelBee family discount!!

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:33 AM): Angie, remember that on the web, people are looking for specific solutions to their problems. It may hurt at first, but the more you specialize, eventually, the more QUALIFIED visitors you get, because they're looking for what you're offering.

Louise (GreenCottage.com) (5/10/99 9:33 AM): no, at the moment we do not have SSL on the site

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:35 AM): So Angie, try setting up a strictly writing site. Formulate those relationships based solely on that. That way, people will take you more seriously than if you present yourself as a jack-of-all-trades.

Angie Dixon (thecommerceplace.com) (5/10/99 9:35 AM): Gotcha. So to really sell the writing services, I need to focus just on them, not make them (as they have been) an adjunct to something else.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:35 AM): Louise, Rob and I could provide you with a secure site that gives you all the functions you are looking for. Most people will not buy from a site that does not have a key.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:36 AM): From personal experience, Angie, I can tell you that it hurt to go from "advertising" to "branding". But the payoff was great. Had to turn away a lot of tempting business.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:36 AM): SSL does three things: Encrypts, provides integrity of information, and provides authentication of the server (YOU). All this is done over a secure session.

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 9:37 AM): Could you shoot me those rates as well(api@texas.net)

Angie Dixon (thecommerceplace.com) (5/10/99 9:37 AM): Thanks, Rob. I think that will really help--I'm working on a site idea now, & will make sure I incorporate your ideas.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:37 AM): if you want a quote, email me at miket@mindthestore.com

Krista (5/10/99 9:38 AM): Entered the room.

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 9:38 AM): Will do!

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:38 AM): Angie, I just subscribed to your newsletter.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:39 AM): hi Krista, what can we do for you today? Jump right in!

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:39 AM): Does anybody have questions about eCommerce?

Angie Dixon (thecommerceplace.com) (5/10/99 9:39 AM): Great, Mike. First issue goes out this week. That's a BRAND NEW site. My sister & I are working on it together--mostly her, at this point.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:41 AM): Benjamin, I will be in all day so call me anytime.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:41 AM): I can tell you all that the reason I chose to work with Mike is that he's really responsive...but you have to contact him in order to get your issues resolved. So don't be shy about talking to him.

Guy - DialOne.com (5/10/99 9:41 AM): Entered the room.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:42 AM): Krista...anything I can help you with?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:42 AM): Mike, I'll call at the end of the chat

Guy - DialOne.com (5/10/99 9:42 AM): Rob, just got a 5xx error and was booted when I was posting.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:42 AM): (I think the server is hiccuping today, folks...be patient)

Krista (5/10/99 9:43 AM): Hi. Just observing for now. My company is called Nextclick.com. Calgary, Canada-based. We specialize in helping business build or extend their business and their brand to the Net (eCommerce focus). I'm mostly focused on the bigger picture brand and integrated marketing side. My background is PR and traditional marketing/advertising (agency consulting).

Guy - DialOne.com (5/10/99 9:43 AM): Angie will your newsletter be weekly?

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:44 AM): Okay. We've got a light attendance today, so I'm just encouraging the dialogue....

Angie Dixon (thecommerceplace.com) (5/10/99 9:44 AM): Yes, Guy, it will be weekly.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:45 AM): Krista, Nice Site from a fellow Canadian,

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:45 AM): That, plus our server is behaving badly, so people are having trouble posting...

Guy - DialOne.com (5/10/99 9:45 AM): ok, thanks I will go there after chat, always like to gather new ideas

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:46 AM): I must say, that as a group --broad generalization -- those Canadians have the world beat. Incredibly big Canada fan, here...

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:47 AM): Krista, what sort of eCommerce solutions do you provide?. Maybe we can talk about a joint relationship?

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 9:47 AM): Rob, Do you know of a good way to encourage referral business?

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:47 AM): Thanks Rob, Krista and I will make you a honorary Canadian.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:48 AM): Clayton, the best way is through being thoroughly professional. The second best way is by realizing that referrals depend on other people: the more you give, the more you get.

Ginette (5/10/99 9:49 AM): Entered the room.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:49 AM): Clayton, post on Rob's List . You will be pleasantly surprised.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:49 AM): Clayton, understand that only a certain type of person gives referrals. Either (A) someone who will look good recommending you (B) someone who likes you (C) someone you pay

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:50 AM): If you notice, my primary business is consulting, but I provide FrankelBiz, special rates for start-ups, articles etc. for free as part of this. There's a bigger picture here.

Ginette (5/10/99 9:51 AM): Hi Rob, I just logged on. If you have a chance, I'm the one who had to change the company name from art-aficionado to now Project WWW Website Designs

Krista (5/10/99 9:51 AM): We are developing (nearly finished) a proprietary catalogue system (fully scalable and flexible) that we marry with VPOS (by Verifone) transaction software. (note to the person who was wondering about SSL -- the key makes a HUGE difference in customer confidence and purchase rates, btw). We subscribe whole-heartedly to the one-to-one relationship strategy. In fact, we look at it as the missing link in brand loyalty. Mass approaches are integral to growing share of market, but the online experience around the online store is what will grow that share of customer.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:51 AM): There are lots of people who simply will NOT refer you business. Learn to recognize those: selfish, greedy, small-minded who don't understand that giving to someone else is not necessarily losing what you have, but building for the future

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 9:51 AM): Mike what list are you referring to?

Ginette (5/10/99 9:52 AM): I have the Olvera Street.com, can you check the site and recommend any partnering which would be appropriate?

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:52 AM): Hi Ginette! Of course I remember you. I'm glad you lost the aficionado thing...

Scott (5/10/99 9:53 AM): Entered the room.

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 9:53 AM): Let's Assume I have the first down How can I give more?

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:53 AM): Ginatte, is there a reason I can't see Olverastreet.com right now? No DNR...

Ginette (5/10/99 9:54 AM): sorry, www.olvera-street.com

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:54 AM): Well, you have to invent it, Clayton. It's how FrankelBiz began. Go outside your normal course of business, but something that is related and of benefit to others besides yourself.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:54 AM): Krista, do you host the cart for your clients as well?

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:55 AM): (SIX MINUTE WARNING)

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:55 AM): Ginette you definitely need to register olverastreet.com too!

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:55 AM): many people don't even use dashes when typing in domains

Ginette (5/10/99 9:55 AM): it's already registered

Krista (5/10/99 9:55 AM): MTS Mike - what's your biz, your URL?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:56 AM): Ahh.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:56 AM): of course, www.mindthestore.com. We are close competitors btw

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:56 AM): Ginette, have you tried any partners so far?

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:57 AM): What if I have an idea for a service which is partially based on information I am taking from a free resource on the web?

Guy - DialOne.com (5/10/99 9:57 AM): APATHY is the competition is what I say.

MTS Mike (5/10/99 9:58 AM): Krista, I still would like to see if we can work together somehow

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 9:58 AM): Ahh not enough time to get an answer.. I'll ask next week...

Ginette (5/10/99 9:58 AM): yes, in the events page and others

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:58 AM): BTW, Krista, for a flash site, yours is pretty neat. (I'm a non-plug kinda guy)

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:59 AM): Entered the room.

Guy - DialOne.com (5/10/99 9:59 AM): Goodbye all, have a great week.

RobFrankel (5/10/99 9:59 AM): Yikes, I got kicked off again. Apologies for the server behavior today, everyone. We'll do it again next week....

Clayton Turnbow(apimage.com) (5/10/99 10:00 AM): Gotta Run..Thanks for the advice

MTS Mike (5/10/99 10:00 AM): Krista, my email address is miket@mindthestore.com

RobFrankel (5/10/99 10:00 AM): Bye everyone! Feel free to stick around ....if the server doesn't crash!

Benjamin Fitts (SoccerFans.Com) (5/10/99 10:00 AM): Bye all. Mike I'll give you a ring in a few minutes.
