Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:08 AM): Just got bumped off! That was odd.

Kieran (9/20/99 9:08 AM): Well if we're going to be all technical about it, Good Evening

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:08 AM): hmm server acting up this morning?

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:08 AM): Oh, then good evening..

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:09 AM): Hello... is this thing on? Testing 1 2 3

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:09 AM): *laffin* Isn't the Internet grand, Kieran?

Kieran (9/20/99 9:09 AM): NO Guinness this evening. It was a long weekend.

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:09 AM): How was your Monday. Kieran

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:09 AM): you're here, Andy!

Hello everyone (9/20/99 9:10 AM): Entered the room.

Tom (9/20/99 9:10 AM): Entered the room.

Kieran (9/20/99 9:10 AM): Absolutely Hectic, but there's always time for the FrankelBees

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:10 AM): Entered the room.

Glenda (9/20/99 9:10 AM): Entered the room.

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:11 AM): Hello, Tom! I hear that Kieran! I have FB chat on my calendar with a reminder set! :)

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:11 AM): Sheesh. Sorry gang, I think I'm all straightened out now.

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:11 AM): I understand

Kieran (9/20/99 9:11 AM): Good news in the office, It looks like O&M are interested in us!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:12 AM): Hi Glenda! How's your business going? No problem Andy :)

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:12 AM): Any one know where our venerable dictator is?

Glenda (9/20/99 9:12 AM): Going ok Terri...how's yours?

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:12 AM): maybe Rob had a longer weekend than us?

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:13 AM): great thanks, Glenda! Kieran, I take it that is really good news for you?

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:13 AM): Glenda please remind me what you do again

Glenda (9/20/99 9:13 AM): I don't think Rob's going to be here today

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:14 AM): Who do you work for Kieran?

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:14 AM): really, Glenda? I didn't get a notice about it :(

Glenda (9/20/99 9:14 AM): Well Clayton, I sell promotional products, but I've put that business on hiatus to develop a city guide

Kieran (9/20/99 9:15 AM): Big time! we've been holding off on quite a few offers. We were waiting for the biggy & this looks like it. Using Ireland as a test ground, we'll be responsible for developing the online aspect of their 360o branding!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:15 AM): What city are you in, Glenda?

Glenda (9/20/99 9:15 AM): I received an email that said he wouldn't be here this Monday Terri

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:15 AM): Ahh, its coming back to me now.

Glenda (9/20/99 9:15 AM): I'm in the Dallas, Texas area

Kieran (9/20/99 9:15 AM): Clayton, I work for a company called Interact

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:15 AM): Wow! that sounds awesome, Kieran!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:16 AM): hmmm I must have missed that, Glenda

Kieran (9/20/99 9:16 AM): I just hope we're not counting our chickens too early.

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:16 AM): Well, here's a frighteningly generic question for the group... anyone have tips on setting up an e-commerce site. I'm developing a site to sell products for other people's websites. Where do I begin?

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:16 AM): Really, Glenda. I'm in Coppell

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:17 AM): You and Clayton are almost neighbors Glenda :)

Glenda (9/20/99 9:17 AM): I'm in Mesquite Clayton

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:17 AM): What sort of products, Andy?

Glenda (9/20/99 9:17 AM): Yeah Terri

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:18 AM): oops! Anday=Andy

Glenda (9/20/99 9:18 AM): Terri, did you get a chance to check on that URL I gave you for sponsorships

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:19 AM): Consider this your official NDA (we're all friends here, right?!) I'm going to develop a site that sells CDs, T-Shirts etc for local bands. Every small band in the country (almost) has a website and would love to sell their goods online, but not the resources to actually do it. Enter my website to save the day!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:19 AM): actually, I passed it along to my friend looking for a sponsor, Glenda! Thank you :)

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:20 AM): hmmm like a one-stop shop for any band, Andy?

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:20 AM): I'll place a link on a band's website that sends the viewer to my store. I'll actually handle the transaction and order fulfillment. The only cost to the band is to send me a supply of their product and give me a wholesaler's discount on the merchandise.

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:20 AM): Glenda, Do you have a site for the city guide?

Glenda (9/20/99 9:20 AM): You might want to pass this one along to her too, Terri www.esponsorships.com

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:21 AM): Actually, my website will be fairly transparent. As far as the viewer knows, he or she will still be on the band's site.

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:21 AM): That's a great idea, Andy

Glenda (9/20/99 9:21 AM): Yes, Clayton, it's under heavy construction but you can see it at www.dallascityguide.com

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:21 AM): Great! Thank you, Glenda!

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:22 AM): I'll also present other options to the viewer based on bands in that area and n that musical genre.

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:22 AM): That IS a great idea, Andy! Have you checked into getting a merchant account yet?

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:22 AM): I haven't researched it much at this point (merchant account) any recommendations?

Kieran (9/20/99 9:23 AM): Why not create your site as the definitive information resource on the genre with feature articles and inside track.

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:23 AM): Got it, Thanks Glenda

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:23 AM): let me check something in my bookmarks, Andy - I may have one for you

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:24 AM): Eventually I think that would be very valuable. I just want to devote the time or resources toward content development (yet!)

Glenda (9/20/99 9:24 AM): You're welcome Clayton

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:24 AM): correction - DON'T want to create that kind of heavy content yet.

Kieran (9/20/99 9:25 AM): I was wondering, OK.

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:25 AM): http://www.merchantchecks.com/pricing.html That is one that I have looked at but haven't tried myself, Andy

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:25 AM): I know firsthand that bands would like this... check out my band at www.flyingmarsupials.com

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:26 AM): I plan to market it to my own ADI first... Iowa. then I'll let it expand to other areas of the country as I get the system in place.

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:26 AM): Thanks Terri, I'll check it out.

Glenda (9/20/99 9:26 AM): For merchant accounts, I hear it's best to try your bank first...have also heard that Costco offers good rates

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:26 AM): it would also be a good way for them to do "interviews" for content on your site, Andy

Kieran (9/20/99 9:27 AM): Folks I gotta run, see you next week, Best of luck Andy.

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:27 AM): Although, if you are basically the back-end store and not really a site on bands

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:27 AM): Thanks Kieran... check with you next week. Good luck with your venture!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:27 AM): bye Kieran!! see you next week :)

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:27 AM): Also try ccnow.com Andy

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:27 AM): Have a Guinness for me Kieran

Glenda (9/20/99 9:28 AM): Sounds a lot like a band mall

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:28 AM): yes, Kieran - good luck!

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:28 AM): It will be a band mall. My front end will feature a search engine for genre, geography, band name etc.

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:29 AM): The difference with this site is it will be primarily for "unknowns" only

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:29 AM): The promotion for this website will be every band in every club telling people to visit THEIR websites to buy their goods.

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:30 AM): sounds like it will also offer an opportunity for you to sell ad space to other businesses with that same target market :)

Glenda (9/20/99 9:30 AM): Ok, now it sounds like a search engine for bands...you might wanna consider featuring a band on the homepage each week, month, etc.

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:30 AM): Ah yes... ad revenue, the great unknown!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:31 AM): you can check that sponsorship.com place too Andy

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:31 AM): I don't mean to dominate the conversation here today. It's just a bit of a brainstorm I had last night. Anybody else want to jump in?

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:32 AM): featuring a different band on the home page is a good idea .. get them to sign a contract giving you exclusive distribution rights for a period of time

Glenda (9/20/99 9:32 AM): The sponsorship.com list is really a good source for those wanting to learn more about obtaining sponsorship of events

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:33 AM): Ooooo! exclusive distribution... I like that!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:33 AM): of course! you are giving them exposure for what sounds like very small returns .. don't want them to become famous and let someone else reap all the rewards of your hard work!

Glenda (9/20/99 9:34 AM): Andy, I think you should consider becoming an online magazine of sorts to promote these bands

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:34 AM): Hey if I can help some kid become a millionaire, maybe he can help me get there too!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:36 AM): Absolutely, Andy! And an e-zine for their fans is a must!

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:36 AM): Does this sound too much like mp3.com? (If you're familiar with that.)

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:37 AM): no, it sounds different and better

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:37 AM): doesn't mp3.com just deal with mp3 format? I didn't know they distributed CD's and other things like the t-shirts

Glenda (9/20/99 9:37 AM): Well if you had $25,000 Andy, you could turn it into an online TV show

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:38 AM): mp3.com does offer some CDs for sale. I really don't know how that works.

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:39 AM): I would definitely take advantage of online media like streaming video/audio Andy!

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:39 AM): Yes, let visitors hear a sample of a cut form the CD, etc.

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:39 AM): What do you think of buyourstuff.com for a URL. It's pretty generic (which means I could expand in to e-commerce and fulfillment for any industry.)

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:39 AM): take a look at them and see what all they offer Andy .. then offer better and more *grin*

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:40 AM): I don't think I would go generic, Andy - how about buyourmusic?

Glenda (9/20/99 9:40 AM): I think it should be something that reflects music, Andy...buyourstuff.com could be anything

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:40 AM): It would be difficult to brand..

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:40 AM): hmm nooo because you also will offer t-shirts and things

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:41 AM): lots to think about before you get to the actual e-commerce :)

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:42 AM): Very true. I suppose I see this as more of a resource for the seller than a store for consumers to shop.

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:42 AM): it won't be a very good resource if it doesn't cater to the end customer :)

Glenda (9/20/99 9:43 AM): Exactly Terri

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:43 AM): a good "store" will make their customers want to come back and buy often .. and make a name for you too, Andy!

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:44 AM): I understand that. I still see this primarily as a resource for the seller. If my band wants to sell Flying Marsupial CDs online through buyourstuff, I want the customer to think he's still at the Flying Marsupial website. It will make suggestions for other rock bands in Des Moines, Iowa, but mainly it's just to sell "Marsupial Gear."

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:46 AM): I guess I'm a little afraid of trying to appeal to the general public. That's a big bunch of promotion to drive a small percentage of people to my "store." If I approach it from the supply side and let the individual bands promote it to the public, I feel I have a better chance to ultimately drive sales.

Glenda (9/20/99 9:46 AM): But Andy you said it was a search engine...how would anyone find Flying Marsupial website? They would first have to come to buyourstuff.com...if it isn't set up to appeal to consumer, they won't bother to search

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:46 AM): I see where you are coming from, Andy. Many of the newsgroups I belong to now talk about not "owning" customers, but gaining their loyalty by making other resources available to them :) I don't think we're talking conflicting ideas

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:47 AM): Good point Glenda.

Glenda (9/20/99 9:47 AM): But now you sound more like a hosting service

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:48 AM): Or a department store out behind the bandstand

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 9:48 AM): or a cookie cutter merchant service

Glenda (9/20/99 9:49 AM): Is the plan to sell website hosting and design? Or create a community where bands can sell their wares?

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:49 AM): Good point, Glenda!

Glenda (9/20/99 9:50 AM): Will the bands have their own domain names or will it be buyourstuff.com/myband.html?

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:50 AM): I'm not sure we'll be able to define this one in standard terminology. The website navigation is unlike anything I've seen so far. People actually come into the site in one of the bottom pages (on a web site map) and my job is to draw them up through the cart rather than down into the chart. Perhaps I go from Flying Marsupials to Des Moines Bands to Iowa bands to All Rock Bands, etc. Basically each band will own one page in the site... so I guess there is some hosting there, but mainly it's a store.

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:51 AM): I plan to only approach bands that already have a website, but aren't selling their goods on it.

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:51 AM): This is getting confusing, isn't it!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:51 AM): *grin* no not really

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:52 AM): Even if they have their own website, and you are going to be distributing their products for them, it will be good for all of you if the store is a sort of community too

Glenda (9/20/99 9:53 AM): Andy, you really only want to promote your band, right...and the others are simply links to other local bands?

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:53 AM): Hosting opens up a whole other potential business segment. Let me sell your stuff for you and you can have free space on my web server for your band's website. Yikes!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:54 AM): Lots of potential, Andy! I would sit down and do a sort of "business plan" - brainstorm some of the offshoots that you can do

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:55 AM): but before you start paying for your merchant account, you want to know what it is you are selling

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:55 AM): To me this is the secret of web marketing today. Find a niche... the smaller the better, and make it yours!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:57 AM): Very true, Andy! The tighter the niche, and the more demand for it, the better!

Glenda (9/20/99 9:57 AM): I've never liked a tight niche...I guess I'm greedy...lol

Andy TeBockhorst (www.tebockhorst.com) (9/20/99 9:58 AM): OK all, sorry to usurp the whole session, but I think I got some great ideas here today. thanks all very much. Stomachs rumbling... must get food. take care and see you all next week!

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:59 AM): Great brainstorming Andy!! See you next week - and good luck on the house :)

Glenda (9/20/99 9:59 AM): Bye Andy, good luck

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 9:59 AM): Glenda, I'm bad about that too ..but I'm seeing that you can't be all things to all people

Clayton (apimage.com) (9/20/99 10:00 AM): Bye all:)

Glenda (9/20/99 10:00 AM): I sure will give it a try though Terri...lol

Glenda (9/20/99 10:01 AM): Bye Clayton, have a great day neighbor

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 10:01 AM): Wow! a whole hour flown past already! I'd better get some work done today too! Bye Clayton! Bye Glenda! See you next week!

Glenda (9/20/99 10:02 AM): Bye Terri...see ya on Wednesday

Terri (recruit2hire.com) (9/20/99 10:02 AM): you bet, Glenda!
